Obituary of William Paul Kautz

WILLIAM P. KAUTZ age 62, of Jefferson, Wisconsin passed away at his home, April 25, 2010. The son of Kenneth and Elizabeth (Allphin) Kautz, Bill was born November 22, 1947 in Estherville, Iowa. He earned his doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Iowa State University and served as a Captain in the United States Army Veterinary Corps. After serving in the military, Bill worked for more than three decades in the veterinary industry. Well known in the field of dairy nutrition, Bill's work took him around the world but his passion remained serving farmers in the Midwest. He married Mary Thompson of Winona, Minn., on December 19, 1986 in St. Paul, Minn., and enjoyed sharing with her his personal pursuits of life. He was an avid Civil War buff, annually visiting the battlefields of Gettysburg. He loved his dogs, enjoyed eclectic music, cooked with the skill of a master and was a natural athlete, completing the Boston Marathon and winning the Iowa Skeet championship. He will be deeply missed by many, including his wife Mary; daughter Janna (John) Castro and granddaughter Katie Castro of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; his son Justin (April) Sampsel of Round Lake, Ill.; and brothers Jim (Wendy) Kautz of Missoula, Mont. and Robert (Vicki) Kautz of Greeley, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents. A private memorial service will be held for the family.
